By far, this is the best ladder for rafting that I have ever used. So much better than a rope ladder. This rigid ladder by downstream allows you to climb back in the boat Just like you are climbing out of a pool. When you are done, it quickly collapses sideways and can be strapped out of the way. This is a must for passengers with limited upper body strength. Unfortunately, rope bladders give the illusion of being able to climb back in the boat. When you try to use the rope ladder, your feet swing forward under the boat and you find you have to do pull-ups to get back in.

This is way better than the rope ladders. I bought the rope ladders so my wife and daughters could get in the boat, but because their feet go forward they still couldn’t climb in. This completely solves it. It’s like a pool ladder for your raft.

These extended oarlocks did the trick. Trying to modify the oar lock base into a higher position was proving too difficult. Super fast service was a plus! Thanks again Cascade River Gear! No, this was not a sponsored ad.

Couldn’t ask for much more! After a couple years and hundreds of miles of river I’ve been convinced it holds its own with my friends “name brand” rafts. The drop stitch floor is still like new and aside from some rub marks and a couple scrapes the tubes are still like new.

At home on the Smith or the Middle Fork Salmon. Love the size, and your friends will appreciate the cargo room when it comes to permit season.

I had run the river recently and on my next trip I told the group that I was not going to scout Big Mallard. There was some heating discussion about my need to stop with the group and scout it. After a bit of a discussion it was decided that I would setup last in line before Big Mallard and let the my group stop to scout and watch while I made the run. In the discussion I told them "The run is the left slot. It looks tight but if you line up on the left shore then turn into it the water pulls you right in. But, I am going right.".
The next day as we approached Mallard I hung way back. When my friends were all parked and scouting I setup for my run. I started on the left bank and as it curved around to the left I started pulling hard to river right. I was able to get enough momentum to make it on river right. I then pulled over, broke out my throw line and my camera, and waited.
They all saw me run river right and decided...I can do that. The only problem was they all started river center and could not get the momentum necessary to make the ferry. The first boat rolled right up on the big rock. I thought for sure a flip was going to happen. They hung there briefly then rolled off to the left and went through the slot. Next boat...almost the same thing. 4 boats in a row hit that rock but managed to avoid any serious carnage. The last boater decided left was prudent and ran it like a pro.
On subsequent trips we have seen boats get pinned, oars snapped, and gear lost. That trip was my only run to the right but who knows...maybe I will push my luck again soon.

Remember growing up going to Cub Scout and it just being fun. That is this raft. FUN! I have run it with an oar frame or as a paddle boat. It just puts a smile on my face. With a couple of paddle strokes you can really get this boat moving. I found that out on the South Fork of the Boise. The sleepers are hard to see. We were running the boat as an R2 and had to make moves that would have been to late in almost any other raft. I could just reach out to the side and pull the raft where I wanted it. One thing that I have noticed is that you really notice when weight is not distributed well. I'm a big guy so when I sit on the back to guide a group, if the boat is back weighted the front end will pop up a lot more in waves. Still make it a lot of fun.

Just used this bag for three weeks on the Grand Canyon. Great product testing conditions: sandy, windy, very wet, very dry. Never tested full submersion, thankfully. The zipper of course is the key to a happy camp and this one performed. The construction is classic German quality. The hooks that tuck the ends when closed take a little getting used to, not a deal breaker, actually they’re very secure and necessary. The bag zipped open and closed flawlessly. I love Watershed bags but the Ortleib is much simpler to get in and out of. With all brands squeeze all excess air out before zipping and all require zipper lubricant or treatment, and common sense in sand. The 110 can become quite heavy when loaded to the max but the “backpack” straps make it easy to carry up the hill. I found the eight slots for one inch straps to be ample for securing to the boat. There were other famous name zipper bags on the trip that failed. I would buy this bag again.
